Adult Literacy Entry 2 Short Task - A Fundraising Event


ASSESSOR'S NOTES

1. Administration of the short task.

1.1. The short task should not be attempted until the assessor is confident that the candidate has all of the underlying skills listed in 1.4 below.

1.2. There is no time limit on the short task, but the questions should be completed in order and in a single session.

1.3. Calculators should not be used.

1.4. The basic skills being tested in this short task are:

Use whole numbers

  • to add and subtract two-digit whole numbers. (Question 4.)
  • to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 100. (Question 5.)
  • to approximate by rounding to the nearest 10. (Question 6.)
  • to multiply using single-digit whole numbers. (Question 7.)

Use common measures

  • To estimate, measure and compare length using common standard and non-standard units. (Eg: metres, centimetre, etc.) (Question 3.)
  • Use common measures and units of measure to define quantities. (Question 8.)
  • To calculate the cost in pence of more than one item and the change from a transaction of up to ?1. (Question 9.)

Use shape and space

  • To describe the properties of common 2D and 3D shapes. (Eg:- numbers of sides, etc.) (Question 1.)
  • Use shape and space to record simple information. (Question 2.)
  • To make numerical comparisions from block graphs. (Question 10.)

Use data

  • To extract information from lists, tables, simple diagrams and block graphs. (Question 4.)
  • Use information from lists, tables, simple diagrams and block graphs to help understanding. (Question 10.)

1.5. At entry level the assessor may read the questions to the candidate, if needed.

1.6. The candidates should not be given any help unless special requirements have been identified.


2. Assessment of the short tasks.
