Basic Skills Online - Entry Level 2 - Literacy Requirements

Speaking and listening - At this level, adults are expected to:

• Listen for and follow the gist.
• Listen for detail.
• Listen for and identify the main points.
• Listen for and follow explanations and instructions.
• Ask questions to clarify understanding.
• Speak clearly to be heard and understood.
• Ask for information and ask questions.
• Engage in discussion with one or more people in a familiar situation.

Reading - At this level, adults are expected to:

• Read and understand short, straightforward texts on familiar topics.
• Use pictures and captions to find information.
• Read and understand common words in instructions and directions.
• Identify common sources of information.
• Use a simple dictionary.
• Use first letters to find and put words in alphabetical order.

Writing - At this level, adults are expected to:

• Complete forms and records.
• Write to convey information.
• Use written words or phrases.
• Write simple and compound sentences using conjunctions (eg: and, but, etc.)
• Use adjectives.
• Use punctuation correctly (Capital letters, full stops and question marks.)
• Spell correctly most personal keywords and familiar words.
• Write legibly.
