Understanding and using mathematical information - At this level, adults are expected to:
- Use whole numbers, fractions and decimals to measure and make observations.
- Use given materials and methods.
- Make observations and record numerical information using a tally.
Calculating and manipulating mathematical information - At this level, adults are expected to:
- Add or subtract using three-digit numbers.
- Solve multiplication problems using two-digit whole numbers.
- Divide two-digit whole numbers by single-digit whole numbers and interpret remainders.
- Recall addition and subtraction facts to 20.
- Recall multiplication facts (e.g. multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5, 10) .
- Estimate answers to calculations .
- Use and interpret +, -, x and = in practical situations for solving problems .
- Calculate using whole numbers and decimals to solve problems in context .
- Check calculations.
- Estimate, calculate and compare money by:- a. adding and subtracting sums using decimal.
notation, b. rounding sums to the nearest , 10p, etc., c. making approximate calculations.
- Read, measure and record time using:- a. am and pm and common date formats, b. digital clocks and analogue clocks to the nearest 5 minute intervals.
- Choose and use appropriate units and measuring instruments.
- Organise and represent information in different ways so that it makes sense to others.
Interpreting results and communicating mathematical information - At this level, adults are expected to:
- Use whole numbers, common fractions and decimals to present results.
- Use common measures and units of measure to define quantities.
- Use tables, charts and diagrams to present results (e.g. for amounts and sizes.)
